Our Commitment to Breastfeeding

The Goodwin Volunteer Doula Project now has a NEW dedicated breastfeeding support line, with volunteers available until 8 in the evening to give help and support to struggling mums. Currently hosting this service is Sonya McDonnell, who is also a trained Breastfeeding Peer Supporter. She is available to give additional, specialised, information, to supplement the support offered by a volunteer doula. The Breastfeeding Support Line number is 07980 731013.

The Goodwin Volunteer Doula Project is totally committed to helping women to give their babies the best start in life, and breastfeed. We are working with all our partner agencies in health to achieve this goal, and have been very heavily involved in the NHS Hull Unicef Baby Friendly Submission. In recognition of this, we are specifically named on the certificate of commitment that is part of the Baby Friendly initiative, and recognised on the Unicef Baby Friendly website.

We hold training over a full weekend in breastfeeding support in our core training offer, as well as regular updates and support from staff.

69% of the mums we support initiate breastfeeding, with more than half of these continuing for at least 6 weeks after birth. We are very excited to be helping so many mums to initiate such a positive, healthy relationship with their babies, and are always looking for ways to increase this number.
